NL51MV This P-51D was involved in an unfortunate 'ground loop' incident
in Rhode Island.
Thankfully, no one was hurt, but this beautiful Mustang sustained
damage to the right gear, wing tip, and tail section. Trudeau
Warbirds was chosen as the repair facility, and a recovery team
was flown to R.I. in a C-47 to accomplish the disassembly and
packaging. It arrived here at our facility last week, and repairs will
begin shortly.

Disassembly of the damaged parts is well under way. We've removed the
Rolls-Royce engine and shipped it out to
Vintage V-12's
of Tehatchepi, California for tear-down and inspection.
The tail section has been removed from the fuselage, stripped of all
its components and sent to Tri-State Aviation of Wahpeton, ND.
The prop has been disassembled; the blades and hub ready for shipment
to San Antonio Propeller.

With most of the damage identified, the fuselage is being masked
and, with some control surfaces, is being sent to our paint facility
for stripping.

02/11/09
The Fuselage has been carefully stripped, and is being prepped for painting.
The propeller was inspected and deemed unsalvageable, so a new Avia prop will
be arriving sometime in June '09. A main landing gear replacement has also
been found and will be arriving shortly.

04/08/09
The fuselage has returned from the paint shop with its newly restored
and authentic color scheme, protected with two coats of clear
urethane.

05/08/09
The empennage section has returned from
North Dakota, trued up and updated with some new
internal structures as needed. It has been sent to the paint shop for
stripping before any tail-gear mechanisms are installed.

09/01/09
The empennage has returned from the paint shop and the internal
sub-systems are being reinstalled with new hardware, and cables. The
engine has been completed and is awaiting shipment, the prop will be
completed by the end of the year, and replacement landing gear has
been found in
Australia.

11/02/09 Paint is complete on the right wing, and is
back in the shop for reassembly. The rudder is now being covered in fabric.
New landing gear has been assembled after extensive in house machining. The
last of the damaged parts are now in the paint shop.
